It’s harvest time for a lot of juicy good citrus fruit, and it’s also starting to warm up for summer time. So if you’re overwhelmed with lemons or tangelos give this homemade lemon cordial a go!
It keeps super well in the fridge and you’ll be enjoying delicious fruity cordial fizz all year round. Perfect to have on hand for a refreshing late afternoon pick me up, or an early evening cocktail mix!
Ingredients for Lemon Cordial
- 1 Tbsp lemon zest
- 1 Tbsp tangelo zest
- 400ml citrus juice (lemon, lemon + tangelo, mandarin, etc.)
- 1 tsp citric acid
- 1 tsp tartaric acid
- 1 cup caster sugar
- 3 cups boiling water

Simply mix everything together, pour into a bottle and chill in the fridge until you’re thirsty!
To transform it a step further, into a refreshing lemon-ade, by mixing with ice and soda water. Throw in a cheeky shot of gin if that’s your tipple of choice!
I’ve been storing mine (in the fridge) in these cute little Agee measure and pour bottles.
This is our go-to every year when our good friend Sally calls us around to help harvest from her massive tangelo tree. We always end up with kilos of fruit to use, and while it does store quite well it doesn’t last forever. This cordial means we can put this juice to use, alongside our lemons from our tree (and Sally’s and our neighbours!) and store it in the fridge year round. We’re coming up to another harvest, and are just finishing the last of our cordial supply from last year. Perfectly timed!
If after this, you’ve still got lemons coming out of your ears check out our Lemon Slice recipe as another great option to indulge in lemony goodness.
